Mission Statement

The mission of Cornerstone Hospice is to make quality hospice care available to all persons, their families, and those affected by death and dying in our community; to advocate effectively for patients comfort, dignity and choice; and to be recognized as the leading resource in clinical, ethical and spiritual issues of dying and grief. Volunteer opportunites are available throughout the seven Central Florida counties we serve: Hardee, Highlands, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk and Sumter. If you live in a neighboring county, you can still volunteer; however, all of your volunteer activities will take place in one of our seven counties, typically the one closest to you. PLEASE NOTE: Even if you are interested in several different volunteer roles within our organization, you only need to click on one opportunity during this process. You will have a chance to discuss ALL of your areas of interest during your volunteer interview. Thanks.

Description

Cornerstone Hospice volunteers are a vital part of our entire organization, and play an active role in helping to provide the many special comfort and support services that distinguish Cornerstone Hospice care.

Our volunteers are special, but not out of the ordinary. They are regular people just like you. They use common sense and understanding. They do not need a medical background. They listen. They care. Volunteers help make a patient's remaining life more fulfilling and satisfying by giving their time, understanding, and support and asking nothing in return. They also provide support to caregivers who are often with the patient 24/7 and may need a much needed break. Any hospice volunteer will tell you that they feel they receive more from their hospice experience than they give.

PLEASE NOTE: All volunteers are required to go through a mandatory training class with additional training required for some positions.

For this reason, becoming a Cornerstone Hospice volunteer is typically not appropriate for court related community service hours or other short-term requests. Ideally, our volunteers commit to at least one year with us.

Would you recommend Cornerstone Hospice & Palliative Care?

by Gwendolyn C. (2010-02-12 03:32:06.0)
I would recommend this organization to a friend or colleague because at the end of a person life, he/she and their family need the compassion and care from someone that is positive and have the patience to guide them through the process in which they are getting ready to take. The volunteer much be understanding, always giving and expecting nothing in return.
