To inspire and empower kids and the broader school community to care for the environment.
The organization began in 2009 as the result of four proactive women who felt the environment was in a state of crisis and believed that kids had the power to change the course of the future. By educating students in a fun, hands-on way, they saw the power these children had to make environmental change today, but also how these students embraced these values and were using them to guide their future. High School students were opting to major in environmental sciences and environmental law. These students will be the green leaders of tomorrow.Today, Grades of Green is active in over 266 schools, 38 states and our environmental activities have educated over 175,000 children. Our current operating budget is $590,000. We are committed to educating students and raising the bar on individual accountability for the health of our planet. Our programs address all facets of environmental protection, including the reduction of trash, chemicals and emissions, and the conservation of electricity and water. Our instructive, innovative website is highly user-friendly to reach teachers, students, parents, and the army of volunteers interested in implementing environmental activities at their school. Because of this website a plethora of students and team leaders have created environmental projects within their communities that render quantifiable results and cost savings to their schools. We also offer grant-funded in-school opportunities to schools in Southern California to teach students the importance of environmental awareness.
