YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
The purpose of the Crisis Center program is to provide safe shelter, counseling and support services for adult victims of domestic and sexual violence and their dependent children. The shelter has staff on duty 24-hours every day. They provide residents with crisis intervention, transportation, advocacy, parenting education, children's programming, referral to helpful agencies, food, clothing, personal care items, and in finding permanent housing. Other Crisis Center staff persons provide counseling, childcare, and monitored child visitations for non-custodial parents. The location of the shelter is confidential. The YWCA youth programs include a Daycare, Girl Power, Stop Racism & Prejudice Youth Challenge, Children's Christmas Sale. Girl Power is one day event to help young girls build self esteem and self confidence. Girls spend the day in workshops designed to teach skills needed to cope in our world. The Stop Racism & Prejudice Youth Challenge is to empower young people with the skills to lead and influence others to eliminated racism and prejudice. The Children's Christmas sale is an event that lets children shop for family members where nothing is priced over $3. After picking gifts with Santa's helpers the gifts are wrapped. Parents are not allowed in the workshop.
