Mission Statement

Fountain House College Re-Entry provides a supportive community and educational resources to young adults who have had to suspend their education due to a mental health crisis. This program will empower and prepare students to pursue their educational goals and lead healthy, fulfilling lives. By empowering young adults to achieve their goals, we will mitigate the debilitating effects of stigma, isolation, and hopelessness related to mental illness.

Description

College Re-Entry is the only program of its kind to target young adults and bridge the gap between clinical mental health services and educational institutions. The short-term program provides a flexible structure that enables students to pursue their educational goals, develop a foundation of holistic wellness, and build healthy relationships with family and peers.

The program is fantastic. It offers a cozy environment with tremendous support. All of the resources that Fountain House has are edited and adapted for the college re-entry program, which aids young men and women in the college re-entry process. Having to leave school because of an emotional problem is very disheartening. Finding a place to serve as an alternative infrastructure while learning new skills and regaining the confidence to go back to college is critical. The program is a terribly useful platform for young adults who might feel isolated to prepare for either a short or long battle with mental illness. I wish during my school years there was an environment and staff like this available to me.

Experiencing mental health challenges in college was the most difficult time of my life. Since people are so reluctant to talk about it I felt like I was the only one who was going through it and certainly didn't know anyone else who had gone through this and come out the other side. Being a mentor in the College Re-Entry Program allowed me to turn what had been the most negative experience in my life into a positive. I was able to use my experience to help someone who was struggling like I had struggled. If you're looking for a rewarding experience and the opportunity to connect with a student and share what you learned on a flexible schedule of one hour a week where and when work for you and your mentee then you should definitely check out this program!
