Mission Statement

New Teacher Center improves student learning by accelerating the effectiveness of new teachers and school leaders.

Description

New Teacher Center (NTC) partners with states and school districts nationwide to design and implement sustainable induction programs that create high-quality mentoring and professional development opportunities for educators. By strengthening school communities from within and building leadership capacity, our research-based programs improve teacher retention and help close the achievement gap in our nation’s schools. NTC works at all levels of the system, training full-release mentors, analyzing and enhancing teaching conditions, and shaping government policy in order to strengthen the support given to new teachers and school leaders. Through this work, NTC fosters positive change throughout the educational system, while maintaining our focus on what matters: classroom teachers and their students.

Unlike the majority of new teachers, who are left on their own to sink or swim during their first formative teaching years, NTC Teachers are supported by high-quality mentors, and a standards-based Formative Assessment System. This continued support allows NTC Teachers to concentrate more precisely and effectively on improving student learning and accelerating their own effectiveness in the classroom.
