To preserve and protect the historic Olmsted Linear Park in the Druid Hills community of Atlanta, Georgia.

Description

Olmsted Linear Park Alliance (OLPA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization charged with preserving and protecting 45-acres of greenspace located in the historic Druid Hills community. This park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr., considered to be the father of American landscape architecture who also designed Central Park in New York City as well as many other parks. After threats of this park being replaced by a superhighway, community supporters rallied together to save the park from destruction. Years later and millions of dollars raised, the park looks better than ever. But, the work is not done. OLPA continues to raise funds for new shrubs and trees, to replace dying plants and to conduct the overall maintenance within the park.

Next spring, April 22 - 26, 2015, OLPA will host the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational. Nationally acclaimed plein air artists will come to Atlanta to particicpate in the first ever plein air competion held in the Olmsted Linear Park.

This event will be open to the public. The event includes artist demonstrations, special ticketed events and a pubic sale. Park visitors will be able to watch the artists paint in the park and areas surrounding the park. Their paintings will be available for purchase at the awards gala and public sale.
