STATEN ISLAND !

Goal - The Staten Island Heart Society's primary goal is to promote heart health and prevention of stroke in the Staten Island community. Placement of automated external defibrillators and community education programs such as Community CPR are among some of the programs on which the Society focuses. By providing Staten Island Residents the tools needed to take their health into their own hands, we will reduce heart disease, stroke and risk in the Staten Island Community.

Description

Did you know that there is a "GRASS ROOTS" not for profit organization in your home community that is dedicated to promoting healthy hearts and saving lives right here on Staten Island? Each year over 50% of Staten Islander’s are affected by heart disease and Stroke.
Staten Island Has the Highest Rate of Heart Disease in the entire country!
We want to change that!
Did you also know that all of the proceeds raised by this organization benefit the residents of Staten Island only, unlike other larger non for profit heart organizations dedicated to a similar cause?

A History of Community Involvement

The Board of Directors and Staff of the Staten Island Heart Society have a long standing history of involvement in area of cardiovascular health and advocacy with the Staten Island Community.

For years we were responsible for providing hundreds of hours of life-saving community education programs, such as HeartSaver CPR/AED training programs. We continue to provide CPR training and are expanding our goals to reach a larger population.
The members and staff of the Staten Island Heart Society were responsible for donating the first Automated External Defibrillator (AED) placed in a Staten Island Public School .

The Staten Island Heart Society's
Public Access Defibrillation program has placed numerous AEDs into the community so far.

Our Community CPR Classes offer Staten Island residents, ages 12 and up the opportunity to learn adult, child and infant CPR for a minimal fee.
Although no certificate will be given for the community training, all life-saving skills will be taught.

Recent outreach includes African American Churches on the North Shore where cardiovascular disease is seen at much higher rates.

In addition to health fairs, we sponsor a Cardiac Support Group on the North Shore and the Heart Starters'ICD Support groups, with plans to bring additional cardiac and stroke support groups to a central location. We have partnered with Medtronic, to present the support groups for patients with internal defibrillators (ICD)
