Mission Statement

Assistance League of Diablo Valley is a nonprofit, philanthropic, volunteer organization dedicated to improving lives in our community through hands-on programs.


A chapter of National Assistance League , Assistance League of Diablo Valley was Chartered in 1967. Assistance League of Diablo Valley membership has grown to 480 members who live throughout central Contra Costa County, CA. The primary fundraiser is Assistance League's Way Side Inn Thrift Shop in Lafayette, CA.

All funds raised by Diablo Valley chapter stay in Contra Costa County to benefit residents.

  • Provided new clothes for 2,400 children in central Contra Costa County. Donated $6,500 in additional clothing to students in need.
  • Granted a total of $61,600 in scholarships to 13 young adults in community college, high school and Independent Living Skills Program.
  • Performed 57 educational puppet shows to 5,000 students and 300 adults in 32 schools.
  • Screened 1,500 preschool children for vision problems and 1,100 for hearing loss.
  • Provided emergency clothing to 100 victims of assault.
  • Made approximately 6,700 reassurance phone calls to homebound clients.
  • Performed 28 times before 740 seniors in care facilities.
  • Supplied 500 layettes to new babies of families in need and at risk.
  • Read regularily to over 700 children in 35 second grade classes and donated 500 books to school classrooms and 400 books to school libraries.
  • Donated food boxes for families on CalWorks, lobby books for Service Integration Program, library books for a middle school, holiday party items for YAPGAP, 150 duffel bags and items for first apartment for emancipating foster youth.
