Mission Statement

The Los Angeles Public Library Docents is a group of men and women who provide two or more tours a month to children and adults. We offer nine walk-in tours a week of our 1926 Beaux Arts building and the art in the Maguire Gardens, all free of charge. We provide training for all docents in the history of the city library and the buildings magnificent sculptures, murals, chandeliers and decorative ceilings and the beautiful fountains and decorated steps of the art installation, Spine, in the gardens, among other wonders. All tours are free. Groups and individuals may schedule tours any time the library is open.

Description

Docents conduct children's tours which include a short tour of the building and end with a storytime conducted by children's librarians. Adult tours are a full hour and include the building, both the exterior and the interior. An Art in the Garden is also offered.
