Mission Statement
The mission of Creekside Community Development Corporation (CDC) is to promote our southeastern Detroit neighborhood as a diverse and healthy community of choice by:
- Preserving and building affordable and high quality housing
- Protecting and enhancing our parks, waterways and other natural resources
- Encouraging resident engagement in sustaining a clean, safe and beautiful community
- Safeguarding and enhancing all of its current assets
Description
Our organization was founded by a group of residents who first got together in 1990 to discuss housing and other neighborhood aspects that were being lost to neglect and to the City of Detroit's wholesale demolition and redevelopment projects. In 1993, these citizens chose the name Creekside, incorporated as a 501C)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, and planned activities that would improve the neighborhood's quality of life. Since then, Creekside's hard-working volunteer members have initiated or made other important contributions to a wide variety of community projects carried out in conjunction with area citizens, with other nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and with government agencies.
