Mission Statement

The purpose of the Foster Grandparent Program is to provide meaningful, part-time volunteer opportunities for low-income older persons who provide supportive services to children with special or exceptional needs in health, education, welfare and related settings.

Description

Welcome to WMHI Foster Grandparent Program. Volunteers who are Foster Grandparents share their time and talents with special needs children at Winnebago Mental Health Institute, Oshkosh Public School System and Boys and Girls Club of Oshkosh.

To qualify as a Foster Grandparent, a person must: · Be 60 years of age or older. · Have a total annual income from all sources and 15% of medical costs below the income eligibility level established by the director of the Corporation For National and Community Service. · Be physically and mentally able to serve. · Not be employed in the regular work force. · Accept supervision as required. · Participate in the program 12 to 20 hours a week. · Understand the needs of children served, and have a desire to help with their individual growth and development.
