Mission Statement

The mission of the future Connecticut facility--The Cancer SupportCommunity-Southern Connecticut (a merger of Gilda's Club and The Wellness Community)--will be to help people affected by cancer enhance their well-being, and thereby their health, through active participation in professionally-led programs of CSC emotional support, education and hope, such programs to be provided free of charge in a friendly, home facilities worldwide are based on the vision of Dr. Ben jamin, founder of The WellnessCommunity, in 1982: "People with cancer who participate in their fight for recovery along with their health care team, rather than acting as hopeless, helpless, passive victims of the illness, will improve the quality of their lives and may enhance the possibility of recovery." Description

The Cancer Support Community is an international organization established 25 years ago. It is headquartered in Washington, DC. There are 22 Cancer Support Communities in the USA, 28 satellite centers, and 2 centers abroad, in Tel Aviv and Tokyo. In addition, there are 5 Cancer Support Communities currently in development, including The Cancer Support Community-Southern Connecticut (CSC-SCT).

CSC-SCT's current Board of Directors counts 11 members, all volunteers, and will be expanded to a 15-member Board in the months to come. The Treasurer is normally a member of the Board.

The mission of the Board at this time is to raise the first-year estimated budget before a facility is selected, such facility to be located along the shoreline of Connecticut--counties covered under CSC-SCT's charter: Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London.
