Mission Statement

The International Cesarean Awareness Network, Inc. ("ICAN") is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC).

Description

ICAN of SW VA hosts an All About Birth Expo every year. ICAN is an all volunteer organization. ICAN of SW VA holds monthly, free educational meetings to the public about all things birth related. ICAN works to educate women, families, the public and even care providers about cesarean section risks and how to avoid them. ICAN of SW VA's All About Birth Expo connects with local organizations to help them inform the public about all pregnancy, birth and baby related resources available in our community. During the event there are educational opportunities - a birth story panel (where local women share their varying birth stories) and other topics include maternal rights, cesarean prevention, chiropractic care in pregnancy, midwifery care, newborn care, hypnosis during labor, etc.
