Mission Statement

Founded in 1989, Saturday Scholars is dedicated to empowering Chicago youth by developing strong mentoring relationships that focus on college and workforce readiness, educational and cultural programs, and personal motivation.

Description

Saturday Scholars is looking for qualified volunteer mentors with diverse backgrounds and life experience who can help shape the future of Chicago youth. Mentors are the cornerstone of the Center for Community Arts Partnerships' (CCAP) Saturday Scholars college-readiness program. Supported by JPMorgan Chase and Columbia College Chicago, Saturday Scholars helps level the playing field for Chicago students many whom are the first in their families to attend college. By providing guidance and support for Chicago high school students, mentors help enhance the public school experience for these young minds. This becomes increasingly critical as high school graduation rates continue to remain low. As participants in the program, Scholars are encouraged to not only stay in school, but most importantly to explore opportunities for an education beyond high school. Every year, over 90 percent of Saturday Scholars seniors apply and get accepted to a college of their choice. And Saturday Scholars mentors help make that happen.
