Volunteering at the Texas Runaway Hotline/Texas Youth Hotline is unbelievably rewarding. You get trained on how to answer calls from teens who are contemplating running away, parents who are concerned about their children, kids who just need someone to talk to and others who are looking for resources like counseling, shelter, etc. The hotline does a wonderful job of training its volunteers on how to answer calls and how to be of the most help. I've been working there for more than a year and love it. One of the best things is that the staff is very organized, so you never feel like you're working in a chaotic environment. They're absolutely there to support you. Most volunteers take a three-hour shift every other week.
