What we do and who we are:
© Parent Heart Watch has been able to become a grass roots network from a few families
to a national voice of collaborated efforts with membership of 200 advocates
in 45 states.
© Parent Heart Watch uses the compelling stories of our children whose lives were lost to SCA.
We also use stories of our children who have been saved or living with heart issues.
The heightened attention surrounding the events is an opportunity to raise awareness and
educate the public.
© Parent Heart Watch provides two compelling services to our membership:
a) The leadership, tools and resources to become advocates for Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)
prevention in the youth population.
b) Support to our membership which then strengthens them to become advocates for change.
© Parent Heart Watch advocates:
a) Preventative treatments to SCA.
1) Heart Screenings with EKG's, echocardiograms or both.
2) Medication, surgery and ICD treatment information.
3) Well child heart evaluations and standardized preparticipation physicals.
b) Research initiatives for SCA prevention.
1) National registry for SCA in young people.
2) Prevention for primary and secondary causes to SCA.
3) Disease specific research.
c) Training for CPR and Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs)
d) Placement of AEDs within communities, targeting places where the public congregates.
e) Raise awareness and educate the public about the true extent of SCA in the young.
f) Legislation and public policy change that would bring reform to all the initiative listed above.
© Parent Heart Watch recognizes that children at risk for SCA is a smaller segment of the
older general population which is at a much larger risk. The fact remains that most of the
community frequent school buildings and youth athletic leagues. Information will be
viewed at massive levels by parents, grandparents, and teachers who are more likely to
suffer an SCA.
© Parent Heart Watch with the collaborated efforts of it's membership is viewed by local
newspapers and television across the nation on a weekly basis. The Parent Heart Watch
organization has been on nationally syndicated television shows such as NBC Nightly
News, Good Morning America, PBS Nightly Business Report just to name a few.
Parent Heart Watch has been in national newspaper publications such as USA Today and
The Wall Street Journal as well.
