The Day Worker Center of Mountain View’s mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment to connect day workers and employers in a safe and supportive environment. In addition, the Center strives to empower workers to improve their socioeconomic condition through fair employment, education, and job skills training. The Center also participates in advocacy efforts that support the day laborer community. Our vision is a world of diverse communities where day laborers live with full rights and responsibilities in an environment of mutual respect, peace, and harmony.
The Day Worker Center of Mountain View is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides job-matching services for hundreds of local homeowners and businesses annually. Work most often sought by employers includes yard work, house cleaning, moving, and painting. Established in 1996 by day workers, community of faith, elected officials, and leaders from local businesses, the Center serves the communities of Mountain View and the surrounding areas. In twenty-six years, the DWC has gone from a street-based operation to a core community institution with broad-based support that serves both the day worker community and the larger community.
The Center offers more than ten programs for community members. A few programs include: Job Placement, Outreach about workers rights, Healthy Meals, job skill classes, ESL classes, Spanish classes, Written Driver's License Class, and many more. In addition, the Center provides referrals to food, housing, clothing, and emergency assistance services.
