Mission Statement

The mission of "Friends With A Better Plan" Community Action Program, a youth services agency, dedicated to the health and well-being of all youth, is to provide effective programming services which will prevent or reduce the harmful effects of drugs, violence and other behaviors which endanger the physical and mental health of our community's youth.

Description

"Friends With A Better Plan" Community Action Program has been providing alcohol, tobacco and other drug and violence prevention services to St. Louis Public Schools for 12 years. Our goal is to prevent or drastically reduce the use/abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs among our program youth in order to avoid its unhealthy consequences. Consequences such as violence, dropping out of school and delinquency.

We are state certified by the Missouri Department of Mental Health as a Substance Abuse Prevention Agency. Our prevention specialist, along with our staff of dedicated professionals and volunteers more than assure we are well able to deliver our valuable services to the youth in our community.

I absolutely love everything about Friends!! My name is Meghan O and I am a graduate from Sumner High School (which is one of the schools that is blessed to have such a beautiful and loving after school program) and I was actively involved and I enjoyed everything about it! They provided my peers and I an outlet to have a sense of relief. No one was there to judge us for our actions, we could speak our mind. I was literally in heaven and was sad that it had to end when I graduated. Now, that's why I came back, only now I'm working on being that exceptional Group Facilitator to my students at Vashon High School. I knew how awesome of a program it was and I had to give back that knowledge that they gave me. The funny thing is that I notice that I'm still learning, it's different because I'm also learning from my students. That's why I say that I absolutely love Friends with a Better Plan!! I suggest any and everyone to consider volunteering with us especially if you love teenagers :)
