Description

Lenoir County Learning Academy, formerly Sampson School, is the alternative school in the Lenoir County Public School system. We serve grades 6-12. Our student population consists of at-risk youth who have displayed problem behaviors at their home schools and have been recommended for our program. We have some students who are enrolled due to the parent request because of our small family like environment. Many of our students are involved in gangs and/or the juvenile or adult criminal system. The student population is constructed primarily of African Americans with approximately 95% of which are males. The Lenoir County Learning Academy has recently been recognized as the first traditional alternative school to receive exemplary status in the state of North Carolina. What separates our school from traditional schools is that we not only focus on education, but also on building relationships with students because they don't care what you know until they know that you care.
