Description

Since inception, 2004, our primary concern was to motivate and empower under-served, uninspired, low achieving elementary age children. Our request from the school district was for 5 students per school with a ration of 3:2 Black:Other. The response was all black males. The comments made from the schools were that we were culturally capable of reaching these young mean because we shared an ethnic heritage and culture.From that time till now with a few exceptions, our students have been black, male and female. This experience made us aware of the number of young men who were placed in special education because of behavior or emotional problems and the potential entrance to the prison pipeline. This is now our main cause, to interrupt the pipeine flow.

Over the last two years we have gotten involved with the Department of Mental Health's Cultural Competency initiative and the effort to reduce stigma and discrimination in services. It is our belief the lack of academic proficeincy results in mental dis-ease which leads to school dropout and crime.

We also believe our diet, poor nutrition, is a contributing factor to many of our health issues, mental and physical. This is our direction in 2015.
