Compeer, Inc. Mission Statement

To improve the quality of life and assist in the rehabilitation and support of referred adults receiving mental health care To initiate, develop, strengthen, and unite the effort of Compeer agencies and programs in other communities both nationwide and in other countries To meet the needs of volunteers, professionals, community organizations, and institutions in serving Compeer's identified population

We will accomplish our mission through: Providing an emotionally disabled individual the support and friendship of a one-to-one relationship with a professionally trained and highly motivated volunteer Increase public awareness and understanding of the loneliness, and emotional needs of those diagnosed with mental illness Implementing additional services and programs as needed to support the advancement and rehabilitation of emotionally disabled adults.

Description

Compeer is... Compeer is a program that matches volunteers from the community with people who are receiving mental health treatment. The word Compeer means companion or friend and friendship is powerful medicine. Our participants come from different backgrounds and face different challenges. Mental illness has been called the loneliest illness. Our friends are referred to Compeer because their mental health professional feels they have a special need and would benefit from the companionship and support form our program.
