Mission Statement

Working for the full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Jews in Jewish life.

Description

Many GLBT Jews feel alienated and hurt by the Jewish community.

It can be as simple as a youth group leader who lets a homophobic slur go unanswered, a synagogue membership form that does not recognize same-sex couples as families, or a transgender Jew who must endure stares while working out at the JCC gym.

In this environment, queer Jews have to choose one identity and hide the other.

Keshet provides a space where GLBT Jews can be our full selves. We offer avenues of connection to Jewish identity and experience -- Jewish learning, celebration, and vibrant community. At the same time, we work for transformative change to bring about a Jewish community that fully welcomes and includes all of us. "Inclusion" does not mean tolerance or passive acceptance, but rather a proactive embrace of GLBT Jews and an openness to the unique perspectives and insights we bring.
