Mission Statement

The Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association (RRCIA) is a not-for-profit association whose primary purpose is to enhance the recreational, educational and interpretive programs of the Bureau of Land Management, and other governmental agencies, by providing materials and services to the public which promote an understanding and appreciation of the natural history, cultural history and sciences of Southern Nevada .

Description

As part of its mission, RRCIA manages the Mojave Max Program, which teaches local students about one of our threatened species, the desert tortoise. The program provides classroom and assembly presentations that teach students about tortoises and the importance of desert conservation. There is also an annual contest to guess when the real Mojave Max will emerge from his burrow at Red Rock Canyon each spring.
