Birthright's mission is to maintain a crisis center where any pregnant girl or woman, wed or unwed, may find help as near as her telephone. By placing a call to the crisis center, she will be aided to mobilize her own resources and those of the community so that she may face the future and plan constructively for herself and her child. All Birthright services are to be free and confidential and provided by an all volunteer staff.
Birthright is a non-profit, interdenominational, non-political, emergency pregnancy service offering the alternative to abortion. It is staffed by volunteers. The office has 2 phone lines and rooms for answering the phone and for friendship counseling, baby clothes, and maternity clothes. Birthright of Greater Hartford's trained volunteer friendship counselors staff the office at 914 Main Street, Suite 216, East Hartford an average of 35 hours per week and contribute an additional average of 20 hours per week from home.
Birthright's ongoing presence of trained volunteer friendship counselors are available to pregnant women who may be distressed by their situations. Volunteers provide free pregnancy testing, friendship counseling, community resource information, maternity and baby clothes, and referrals to professionals for medical, legal, and psychological aid. Maternity and infant clothing collected at local churches and donated to Birthright are distributed to the mothers we work with.
