Mission Statement

Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano is committed to saving, protecting and managing for society as a whole, the incomparable testimony of Italian art, history and nature.

Description

FAI- The National Trust for Italy and Friends of FAI is a non-profit dedicated to preserving the monuments and natural heritage of Italy. FAI has purchased 22 Italian properties, consisting of monuments, gardens, castles, villas and monastic buildings.

FAI protects elements of Italy's physical heritage that are threatened by urban and industrial sprawl and natural decay because of a lack of monetary investment. The properties restored by FAI are opened to the public and will be preserved for generations to come. Without FAI's funding, these properties would have been physically lost forever.

Established on 28 April 1975 by Giulia Maria Mozzoni Crespi, Renato Bazzoni, Alberto Predieri and Franco Russoli, the trust was modeled after the National Trust in England. Today, FAI is a non-profit organization with over 60,000 members across the globe.

Friends of FAI, San Francisco, sponsors Italian cultural events in the Bay Area to inspire and cultivate continued admiration of Italian cultural history in the US and raise money for FAI's restoration projects.
