Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
RSVP MISSION: To serve as a volunteer opportunity clearinghouse for individuals 55+ years of age; to provide opportunities that are equally meaningful to the volunteer serving and the community served; to mobilize people and resources to deliver creative solutions to community problems; to spread and support the spirit of volunteerism in Monroe and Owen Counties.
The RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program is a corps of volunteers (all 55 years of age and better) who are making a difference in our community. Numbering over 480 strong, RSVP volunteers serve in a variety of focus areas:
-Healthy Futures: supporting seniors aging in place through
-Home repairs/ramps installation
-Serving those facing end-of-life through hospice
-Collecting food for distribution to families in emergency situations
-Promoting health and wellness
-Education-assisting at-risk infants, preschoolers, and school-aged children
-Helping with educational events
-Raising funds through a thrift shop to support child care scholarships
-Helping veterans understand and access V.A. benefits
-Supporting veterans living at home with friendly visiting/assistance
RSVP volunteers have served throughout Monroe and Owen Counties since 1988, helping at non-profits, health care facilities, and governmental units. Volunteers use their experience and expertise to give back, making a difference, and leaving a legacy for future generations.
Volunteers benefit greatly from their service, perhaps even more than the non-profit. Scientific studies have shown that volunteers enjoy health benefits like lower blood pressure, depression and social isolation, and higher levels of brain functioning, physical ability, and happiness when compared to non-volunteers.
The RSVP office provides:
-information about pressing volunteer needs in our area
-assistance locating opportunities that match your interests/schedule
-(optional) monthly special events emails, informing you of one-time events and assistance getting registered
-supplemental insurance while volunteering
-liability (including auto liability)
-monthly potluck/birthday party
-an annual cookout and awards banquet to celebrate your service
-social connection to other like-minded volunteers
We ask volunteers to track their time spent volunteering, and report to us monthly (www.area10agency.org/volunteerhours). We use this data to let local, state, and federal agencies know where mature adults in our community are volunteering, and what impact they are having, and to measure our success. Thanks for your help in this important aspect of volunteer service.
We’re looking forward to connecting with you!
