Mission Statement
The Veterans History Project of the American Folklife Center collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.
Description
Become a volunteer historian and record the personal recollections of U.S. wartime veterans for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.
The U.S. Congress created the Veterans History Project (VHP) in 2000 as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
Donated collections take the form of war veterans' first-hand oral histories (recorded on audio or video tape), memoirs, photographs, letters, diaries, and other historical documents from World War I through current conflicts.
