Mission Statement

Memory Care Cafe is an active, social club that offers people with memory loss ('forgetfulness') and their care partners opportunities to get out, connect, and explore their creativity in an environment free from stigma and judgment. Memory Care Cafe is unique in encouraging care partners to socialize together in an atmosphere of normalcy without focusing on disease or loss. Through public interactions and presentations, Memory Care Cafe also aims to reduce stigma and improve 'Forgetfulness-Friendly' practices on Main Street.

Description

Memory Care Cafe hosts weekly activity and social gatherings for seniors with forgetfulness (Alzheimer's and other forms of memory loss) and their care partners.

The need for social opportunities is compelling: care partners living at home with early memory loss can lose their social support network and, at the same time, are less likely to use traditional community-based support services.

Since we started in April 2013 we have evolved into several inquisitive, mobile groups, with weekly outings to various destinations in San Francisco and its surroundings. We visit museums, famous landmarks and interesting neighborhoods. We also meet at the Gatehouse at Fort Mason, for a variety of projects and local explorations.
