The Volunteer Recruiter and Interviewer assists the Volunteer Center by attending recruiting events and interacting with potential volunteers. Weekly, they will also conduct volunteer interviews, evaluating the potential volunteers and their application, reviewing areas of interest and availability. Based upon the information supplied by the potential volunteer, questions and discussions are personalized and focused on interests, background, and availability. If there are any "gaps" or red flags in the application, those are explored as well. Throughout the encounter, the Interviewer takes note of appearance, personality traits, enthusiasm, motivation and both body and verbal language to make the best assessment and eventual fit within the organization. All application information and interview notes are then entered into the volunteer management system. Principle duties and responsibilities: 1. Review application prior to interview. 2. Remain current on volunteer openings and organizational needs. 3. Assess applicant’s abilities, interests, commitment and suitability. 4. Suggest possible placements and coordinate scheduling. 5. Complete all application information and notes in the volunteer management system. 6. Attend volunteer and intern recruitment fairs as needed. 7. Understand history and mission of Lighthouse Guild. Qualifications: 1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 2. Ability to understand and evaluate people and their abilities. 3. Social interaction skills. 4. Critical judgment abilities. 5. Ability to align people’s interests with volunteer openings. 6. Prior experience in human resources management, hiring or interviewing is required. Training: The candidate will sit in on several interviews, and co-interview with the CVO or Volunteer Administrator before conducting interviews on their own.

The Adult Day Health Care Program (GuildCare) provides healthcare and recreation for multicultural seniors with vision loss, multiple developmental disabilities and chronic medical conditions. The yoga Instructor will lead seniors in a group environment through prearranged exercises designed to enhance overall fitness, strength and endurance while ensuring that the safety of the clients is not compromised. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Create a mind and body union through exercise that helps to improve flexibility, strength and balance. 2. Instruct exercise techniques for senior with vision loss and chronic conditions that can be done in a seated position using the upper and lower body. 3. Help guide senior clients through a variety of postures and breathing exercises with hands-on direction to make sure senior clients are performing movements properly and applying correct breathing techniques. 4. Issue clear verbal instructions, and ensure that the volume, tempo of music and overall atmosphere is conducive to hearing, teaching, learning and having fun. 5. Continually monitor participants to ensure all participants are using correct form. Offer variations of routines to accommodate different fitness levels. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must be dependable and consistent with the schedule. 2. Must be able to maintain a positive and professional attitude toward responsibilities, clients, fellow volunteers and employees. 3. Yoga Instructor certification required. Personal training or group fitness certification preferred. 4. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.

You will help support Volunteer Center operations by reviewing, gathering, and entering volunteer time data within the department’s time management system, Volgistics. You will review other program related data along all platforms and databases for consistency and accuracy. You must possess strong administrative skills and be comfortable navigating at an intermediate to advanced level Word, Excel, and Access documents and be willing to learn to use the volunteer management system. Principle duties and responsibilities: 1. Audit timekeeping records. 2. Verify attendance and hours served, Follow-up to correct any discrepancies. 3. Reconcile/synchronize timekeeping information across all platforms. 4. Update volunteer assignments. 5. Produce reports of various data points from various platforms, providing analysis as needed. 6. Assist with processing new volunteers, ensuring that their file and records conform to department standards. 7. Communicate with volunteers. 8. Support the administrative needs of the department. Qualifications: 1. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access required. 2. Strong written and oral communication skills, including clear diction is required. 3. The ability to take and follow instruction, take initiative and apply critical thinking skills is required. 4. Prior experience where customer service skills have been used is preferred. 5. We are looking for someone to help support and build capacity of the Lighthouse Guild Stephen T. Pearlman Volunteer Center by supporting the growth and development of the Access Center, the next generation of volunteer executed programming to support people with vision impairment. NYC Civic Corps is an AmeriCorps program run by NYC Service, a division of the Office of the Mayor. NYC Civic Corps places members at nonprofits throughout all 5 boroughs in New York City. Members help to develop volunteer recruitment, training, management, evaluation plans and programs with the goal of building volunteer program capacity and allowing the organization to engage more volunteers thereby engaging more clients. The Access Center Program Assistant will be responsible for but not limited to the following: Create the structure for the two new programs and recruit, screen and place volunteers for all programs, (reading, escort, companionship). Evaluate potential clients for the programs and match them with volunteers. They will coordinate schedules, receive clients and volunteers, and otherwise ensure the smooth running of the program. Propose a strategy for meeting reading needs in unfilled positions then execute the strategy. Document successful activities to ensure that procedures and protocols can be replicated and scaled. During the service period, match at least 20 clients with volunteers. Create new ways to meet the needs of isolated clients in need of volunteer support.
