Help Prepare Children for Success in School

Save the Children is a leading international nonprofit children's humanitarian and development organization. In the United States, Save the Children partners with community sites such as ours to create lasting, positive change in the lives of children in need. Despite the economic growth of the 1990's, one out of every six children in the U.S. still lives in poverty threatened by illiteracy, teen pregnancy, drug-abuse and violence. Save the Children's nationally recognized Web of Support after-school initiative provides children and youth with safe places, constructive activities and caring adults to guide them away from risky behaviors and toward a promising future of academic and personal growth.

As a Save the Children community partner, volunteers from the Foster Grandparent Program help our children prepare for success in school through mentoring and tutoring. We recognize that senior volunteers are a tremendous resource and that a consistent connection with a caring adult is one of the best predictors of adolescent well being.
