Description
When Seniors Volunteer and Young People Come Together, Everyone Wins
In 1998 a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) National Service Corps (NSSC) enabled Save the Children to develop and manage five community-based Foster Grandparent Programs and launch a national intergenerational initiative to promote senior volunteerism. Since then, Save the Children's older adult volunteers have mentored and tutored over 4,000 children in the United States. All senior volunteers work through the US programs network of community partners. Their involvement continues to strengthen our Web of Support Program model, both locally and nationally, and has directly improved opportunities both for children in need and the older adults who help them.
