The Vermont Migrant Education Program (VMEP) and Bridges to Health provide educational and health support services to children and families that relocate in order to obtain seasonal or temporary employment in agriculture.
Children of migrant workers and adolescents that are working independently are among the neediest and least visible of Vermont's population groups. Because of their transience and isolation, it is easy for these students to fall out of step academically and socially.
Volunteers play a vital role in creating educational opportunities and access to health care for migratory youth and families. With the support of volunteer educators and drivers migratory youth and families receive services such as transportation to health appointments, English instruction, academic tutoring and GED preparation. Volunteers help students reach their educational goals and stay healthy.
