Mission Statement
The vision of TECH CORPS is simple: to provide K-12 students nationwide--public and private, urban/suburban and rural--with access to the most technologically advanced education possible, ensuring that they have the skills needed to compete in tomorrow's workforce. We approach this in three ways: (1.) By recruiting, placing and supporting the highest quality volunteers from the technology community to advise and assist schools in the introduction and integration of new technologies into the educational system; (2.) By bringing new resources to schools through projects such as webTeacher (which brings Internet training to teachers) and techs4schools (which gives schools online access to tech support provided by tech-savvy volunteers); (3.) By establishing partnerships at the local, state and national levels that foster collaboration amongst communities, businesses and schools.
Description
TECH CORPS is a national nonprofit (501c3) organization, founded in 1995 by Gary Beach, Senior Vice President of International Data Group and Publisher of CIO magazine. TECH CORPS is directed from a National Office in Maynard, Massachusetts and implemented through 24 State Offices established to provide critical grassroots connections. A national Board of Directors oversees TECH CORPS, while State Advisory Councils guide activities in each state. In 2002, TECH CORPS established a Northern New England affiliate dedicated to bringing TECH CORPS resources to teachers, administrators and students in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine schools. As a nonprofit charitable organization, TECH CORPS is supported entirely by contributions from corporate and private foundations and individual donors. In excess of 80% of dollars contributed go directly to program delivery. Led by the sponsorship of Hewlett-Packard, Cisco Systems, YES Network, and a host of technology, telecommunications and consumer companies, corporate partners support TECH CORPS' work of delivering valuable services and resources to schools free of charge at the state and national levels.
