Mission Statement

Our main goal is to assist students at the Sacramento School for Engineering and Sciences on their Science/Engineering Fair projects with heavy emphasis on the scientific method and proper engineering methods.

Description

Our group has been partnering with the School of Engineering and Sciences (SES), the Sacramento City Unified School District, and the Sacramento Regional Science Fair the past six years. Our current list has over 100 members from over 20 groups from industry, academia, and government. The main goal of our group is to assist the students from SES with the planning and implementation of their Science/Engineering fair project through one-on-one mentoring with heavy emphasis on the scientific method and proper engineering methods. Our mentors also act as judges for both the SES middle school and high school science fair and as career day speakers. In addition, many of our mentors also volunteer as judges for Sacramento Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Out group meets 1-2 times a month during the academic year to discuss mentoring methods and logistics for mentoring students for the upcoming weeks. New mentors are often paired with experienced mentors for the initial mentoring sessions. Most of our mentors have degrees and advanced degrees in science and engineering, however, we also have a number of upper division college students who have also participated in our program.
