Mission Statement

Description

The Beacon House Association of San Pedro knows that surrendering drugs and the ideas and behaviors that supported
addiction leaves people frightened, empty and confused. Therefore peer mentoring for both character building and healing
must work in tandem to transform dysfunctional thinking and behaviors into character strengths which allow the men to feel
positively connected to themselves and others. The evidence of these changes is documented in counseling notes and is
known to be the foundation of successful sobriety and healthy integration into the community. . The primary goal of The
Beacon House Association of San Pedro’s program is to allow each of the 160 men who enter each year, the chance to fully
participate and experience recovery by learning from others with similar life experiences and eventually helping and teaching
others in the peer driven modality. The Beacon House Association of San Pedro’s peer to peer mentoring teaches, explains
and models character strengths such as: honesty, open-mindedness, humility, altruism, integrity, discipline, accountability,
responsibility, amends, gratitude, courage, compassion and caring. Peer mentoring in individual and group counseling
settings facilitates the sharing and healing of past trauma, deficiencies and stress.
