Great Lakes Caring encourages a philosophy of care that assists patients, caregivers, family and friends during the final stages of terminal illness. We promote dignity and emphasize quality of life for those who choose to die in familiar surroundings with the ones they love.
Great Lakes Caring Hospice is currently looking for Companion Volunteers with opportunities in both Oakland and Macomb counties. By volunteering a few hours or days a month you can make a difference in the lives of the patients and families we serve. As a volunteer you can choose to work with hospice patients and their families or in administrative activities at the hospice office.
A person who volunteers is trained for the area in which they choose to serve and are under the direction of the hospice staff member responsible for the volunteer program.
There are two major areas in which to volunteer with different job titles within those areas.
1. Administrative/Non-Patient Care Volunteer is a person who wants to volunteer but desires no direct patient contact. They may provide administrative assistance in the hospice office.
2. Patient Care Volunteer is a person who wants to volunteer directly with patients, whether it is in the patient's own home, primary care giver's home, assisted living home, nursing home or other long term care facilities.
