Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Provide a foundation for life-long learning through high quality early care and education meeting the social, emotional and developmental needs of the high number of at risk children we serve. Assist parents in recognizing education is a partnership and their role is especially vital in supporting their child’s educational success.
Little Dudes is a nonprofit day care.
Little Dudes Learning Center opened in 1961 when Mrs. Ellen Smith recognized the need for childcare in South Austin. Although it was still primarily undeveloped, South Austin was growing, and the IRS had just opened their Austin facility. Little Dudes Learning Center was the first childcare center to open in Austin, south of the river. Following the opening of the first center on Sandra Street, an after school care and summer camp was introduced at the Crow campus, in 1971. An additional Maufrais center opened in 1980. In 2013, the Maufrais facility was leased by Head Start, and the children and staff at the Maufrais location were relocated to the childcare facility at the Woodway Village Apartments in Southeast Austin.
Providing high quality early childhood education has always been a priority. During the early 1990’s the local workface Board recognized little Dudes Learning Centers as Designated Vendors, later renamed Texas Rising Star: 4 Star Centers, a statewide quality certification program. Little Dudes Learning Centers also participate in the Texas School Ready program, a Pre-K school readiness certification developed by the University of Texas. We are proud of maintaining the longest lasting, quality certified learning center in Austin.
