NORTHERN RI RSVP

Mission Statement

The RSVP program has operated in Woonsocket for 34 years under several sponsors, but for the past 21 years under the sponsorship of the Retired Senior Volunteer Association, Inc.. The RSVA, which had organized in 1976 to provide support to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program stepped into the breach in 1985 when the sponsor at that time withdrew from the project. Organized as a self-sponsored RSVP. one of a small number nationally, the goal of the Board of Directors has been to maintain top quality programming and volunteer opportunities for area seniors. The mission of the RSVA as outlined in its restated Articles of Incorporation (1985) and by-laws is two-fold: I. Promoting the participation of older persons in volunteer services to their communities, especially through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. II. Sponsoring and operating programs and services that benefit the elderly and disadvantage, or that assist other community service organizations that benefit the elderly and disadvantaged, especially those that feature a volunteer component.
