Ignite minds and fuel important conversations. Why should you become a debate judge? Academic debate isn't just transformative for the debaters-it's an opportunity for you to change lives too! By stepping into the role of a debate judge, you can: Empower a Young Person: Be the catalyst for a student's growth, helping them find their voice and confidence. Serve as a Conscientious Educator: Contribute to the development of critical thinking and communication skills in the leaders of tomorrow. Expand Your Professional Network: Collaborate with like-minded judges and enhance your professional connections. Utilize Your Expertise: Apply your professional skills to support and mentor future leaders. Engage in Academic Service Learning: Make a meaningful difference in your community while expanding your horizons. Give Back: Pay it forward by providing valuable feedback and encouragement to aspiring young debaters. Flexible Time Commitment: You're in control! Choose the rounds you want to judge (1-2 hour slots) at your convenience. Transportation is self-arranged. Rewards: We offer compensation of $15 - $25 per round judged and provide meals during in-person tournaments. Exciting Debate Topics: Policy Debate: Our policy debate students are delving into the complex issue of economic inequality. The discussions will revolve around solutions such as universal basic income, federal jobs guarantee, and social security reform. Public Forum: For those interested in Public Forum debate, our debaters are covering the timely topics of student loan forgiveness and/or single-use plastics. Join Us In-Person or Virtually: We're adapting to the times! Volunteer both in-person and virtually (with a stable internet connection and a camera). Impact Lives: Your involvement makes a significant difference. A full day of judging impacts 16-20 students, a half-day influences 8-12, and just two hours of your time empowers four ambitious and courageous students.
