Small Steps in Speech assists children with speech and language disorders by funding supplemental therapies and treatments for individuals and organizations who serve children with communicative disorders.
Description
Small Steps in Speech was as founded in memory and honor of Staff Sgt. Marc J Small who was killed in action in 2009 while serving his country in Afghanistan. The organization was founded by his fiancée Amanda Charney, a speech and language pathologist. As an all volunteer virtual organization, Small Steps has assisted 300 individuals and organizations through over $450,000 in grants. Funding is primarily through individual and organizational donations. Governed by an eight member Boars of Directors, the organization has 20 volunteers including the board.
