We envision an organization valued and respected for its ability to create opportunites and achieve results, an organization committed to the principles of public service.

Community Action will continue to play a leadership role in the development of the counties we serve. We will advocate for the children, youth, familes, and senior adults who need our support and attention. Community Action staff will respecto our history, address current needs, and plan for our future.

Description

Senior Adults Making the Difference in the Lives of Children With Special Needs

The Foster Grandparent Program offers seniors, age 60 and older, opportunities to assist children and youth in non-profit facilities who have "special" or "exceptional" needs.

Volunteers serve 20 to 25 hours per week, receive a tax-free stipend, reimbursement for transportation, one free meal per day of service, free annual physical exam, and additional accident and liability insurance benefits while serving. Monthly trainings are provided.

The Foster Grandparent Program serves the 10 county Barren River area: Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren.
