Mission Statement

Since 1994, Immigration Equality has been proud to support and represent lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), and HIV-positive immigrants seeking safety, fair treatment, and freedom. As the only LGBT organization with a staff of immigration attorneys, Immigration Equality impacts both the individuals we serve and the immigration system as a whole.

Description

Immigration Equality is the national leader in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and HIV-positive immigration rights. We are the legal lifeline for asylum seekers, detainees, undocumented immigrants and families who are at increased risk of being deported to life threatening situations as a result of the current state of U.S. immigration law.

Every year, our legal team responds to thousands of calls, emails, and letters from vulnerable LGBT people who were forced to flee and are afraid of returning to their country of origin due to their sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status.

As conditions for our community abroad continue to deteriorate, and as news of our remarkable 99% win rate spreads, our caseload has surged to unprecedented levels. We are currently representing more than 420 individuals who have fled violence and persecution in their country of origin.
