Description
Make a Difference in the Life of a Child
The Foster Grandparent Program offers seniors age 60 and older opportunities to volunteer in their community as mentors, tutors, and loving caregivers for children and youth with special needs. Foster Grandparents volunteer in Schools, Boy's & Girl's Clubs, Non-profit Day Care Centers, Head Start Centers and other agencies that serve children in the communities of Lee and Russell Counties. If you are interested in serving as a Foster Grandparent, you must meet income eligibility guidelines, and you will receive a modest, tax-free stipend to offset the cost of volunteering. Foster Grandparents may volunteer from as little as 15 hrs. to as many as 40 hrs. per week. The majority of Foster Grandparents volunteer 20 hours per week, 4 hours a day Monday through Friday. Other benefits include reimbursement for transportation, some meals during service, an annual physical, and accident and liability insurance while on duty. Pre-Service and monthly training sessions provided. We have an Annual Recognition Luncheon where we recognize the Foster Grandparents who have given their time and love to the many children in need throughout the community.
