HELP ADULTS IN NEED OF EXTRA ASSISTANCE
The Senior Companion Program is a stipended volunteer program that serves people with special needs on a one-on-one basis. This free in-home service helps to prevent institutionalization and provides the volunteer a new purpose in life. The program is designed for those age 60 and older, who meet the income guidelines and are willing and able to serve adults with special needs on a regular basis. The special needs may be loneliness and isolation, assistance with shopping, appointments, terminal illness and just being part of the world again. A speciality of this project is respite care for the family caregiver of a loved one with dementia.Senior Companions usually serve two to four clients on a weekly basis, serving 20 hours a week. If you are interested in becoming a Senior Companion, you must meet the age and income requirements, and for your time you will receive a modest, tax-free stipend to offset the cost of volunteering. Other benefits include travel reimbursement, annual physical, earned annual and sick leave, smock and name tag pin, etc. Pre-service orientation and monthly training is provided by the Staff.
