The Widow's Mites Project

Description

The Widow's Mites Project is a coalition of non medical home care agencies that have reduced their rates in order to provide home care to all needy adults, regardless of their ability to pay. The clients are referred by local hospitals, social workers, transitional care managers, home care nursing agencies and hospices.

The average non-medical home care agency fee is $20 per hour in Arizona. Our Participating Care Partnersw have agreed to reduce their cost (each individual agency's sets their own reduced pricing), the client pays the agency directly, depending on their ability to pay from their disposable income, and The Widow's Mites Project pays the difference.

The population in Metro Phoenix will rise to 5,000,000 by 2015. Our aging population of over 60 will constitute 25% of this number. Of those, another 25% are considered chronically ill. Typically 65% of all adults over 65 fall within 399% of the poverty level ($11,800). The Project believes that the luxury of at home care is reserved only for the well off, but the need for help knows no income level boundrries.
