Mission Statement
The Marine Museum at Fall River is committed to the collection, conservation and display of artifacts and other materials related to maritime history, both to preserve them for schorarly study and to use them to inform and stimulate public interest in the maritime legacy of the region and nation.
Description
The Fall River Line is a particular focus of the Marine Museum in the broader context of the development of steam navigation and coastal blue-water shipping lines. Other special interests include marine archaeology and underwater exploration, the history of Narragansett Bay and Mount Hope Bay and its ports, tributaries, and adjacent waters, and the maritime backgrounds of various ethnic groups in the community.
The Marine Museum provides public exhibition of its collections, the maintenance of a research library and provides a repository for shipping records and the information on the Titanic Historical Society. The Museum sponsors a variety of activities to bring maritime history to the attention of the community. These include speakers and special symposia, loan exhibitions of paintings, graphics, and photographs of marine interest, and outreach programs to schools and other groups.
