Description

Would you like to assist an elderly fellow Rhode Islander in need of friendship and compassion? Join the Senior Companion Program for a very rewarding experience?

Through the Senior Companion Program, people age 60 and older provide assistance and friendship to homebound adults. Senior Companions serve frail older adults and their caregivers, adults with disabilities, and those with terminal illnesses. Senior Companions usually serve four to six clients on a weekly basis, serving 20 hours a week. If you are interested in being a Senior Companion, you must meet income eligibility requirements, and for your time you will receive a modest, tax-free stipend to offset the cost of volunteering. Other benefits include reimbursement for transportation at .32 per mile traveled, certain stations provide meals, an annual physical, and accident and liability insurance while on duty. Pre-Service and monthly training sessions provided. A Recognition Luncheon, Summer Picnic, and Christmas Party is provided to honor the Companions for their dedication.
