Description

Need help improving environment, education, employment opportunities, culture and heritage preservation, and other initiatives to relieve 25% poverty that exists in the Appalachian Coalfield region.

RAIL has occupied an unneeded elementary school and is providing educational assistance in a distance learning center, literacy instruction, GED training and acrediation. RAIL is working with welfare to work participants in managing the facility and will begin doing job training and business startups. RAIL is also doing extensive work toward cleaning up the environment. RAIL is all volunteer and is assisted by three VISTAS. The center is being used as a business incubator community education center.
