Description

Volunteers are trained in our phonetic, multisensory reading method and work one morning per week (2-3 hours)tutoring children one-on-one in area schools and community centers.

Reading is the single most important skill that a child can possess. Unfortunately, almost 20% of children in kindergarten and Grade 1 struggle with reading. Our phonetic, multisensory, direct method of teaching reading reaches all children, but is especially appropriate for those who for some reason (such as dyslexia or other reading differences)are not being reached through conventional methods. Our tutors are trained by certified instructors in a 33 hour class to work one-on-one with children. RAI maintains and supervises its Volunteer Tutor Program in over 39 locations in Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. After completing our training, our volunteers work 2-3 hours (1 morning) per week tutoring children in grades K-3.
