Mission Statement

The Foster Grandparent Program is a part of Senior Corps. Senior Corps is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Services, the federal agency, whose mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.

Description

Since 1965, the Foster Grandparent Program has connected volunteers aged 55 and better with children in circumstances that limit their academic, social, or emotional development. Foster Grandparents work with students in classrooms for 15 to 40 hours a week. The goal is to engage persons 55 and older, particularly those with limited incomes, in volunteer service to meet critical community needs as well as help children develop academic and life skills critical to future successes.
